Parent Coaching and Support

Reinforcing our Commitment

Promoting the ability of parents with cognitive challenges to function as a healthy and safe family.

We provide hands on coaching and support to identify, develop and implement daily living skills and routines appropriate to the age and development of children.

Working with families through family-centered goal planning we identify the unique needs, wishes and desires of each family member individually and then as a family unit.

Using parent modeling, tracking and evaluation, we strive to foster stable relationships between parents and children by guiding and encouraging appropriate interactions and where necessary, assist families to access appropriate community resources and implement recommendations of other professionals.

Education and Skills Development

Helping The Community

Starfish Parent Support Program recognizes that people learn in various ways. For many of our clients, learning requires a modified approach. We offer individual and small group formats which address  specific skill development areas including parenting, life and social skill training.

Support Groups

One Step at a Time

For many of our parents, alienation and loneliness can be a realistic fact of life. We offer facilitated peer support groups to assist parents to help and support each other. Of course, a supportive group wouldn't be nearly as welcoming without some delicious munchies, which are always a huge part of our meetings!

Outreach

A Real Success

We work tirelessly to partner with organizations, businesses and the community to assist our families to maintain a healthy, safe and happy home.
We are extremely thankful to our partners who provide social and recreational opportunities for our children, assist them through donations of clothing, household items and Christmas baskets.
We are very fortunate to live in Durham Region where community support and generosity is plentiful!
